[Babat, November 19, 2023] — The Entrepreneurship Study Program at Muhammadiyah University of Lamongan (UMLA) once again demonstrated its commitment to community empowerment through a Community Service (PKM) activity. This time, the activity was held in collaboration with the Babat BPWIR Family Welfare Movement (PKK) Group, themed "Waste with Appropriate Value," on Sunday, November 19, 2023.
This activity aimed to provide education and training on utilizing household waste into products with economic value, while also increasing environmental awareness and family economic independence.
The main speakers at this activity were Mega Barokatul Fajri, S.E., MBA, Head of the UMLA Entrepreneurship Study Program, and Elliv Hidayatul Lailiyah, S.AB., M.SM., a lecturer in the Entrepreneurship Study Program. Both presented interactive material on creative economy-based waste management and basic techniques for making crafts from used materials.
"Waste isn't always a problem if we can see it as a business opportunity. Through education and creativity, household waste can be transformed into useful products with market value," Mega stated in her presentation. Meanwhile, Elliv emphasized the importance of building entrepreneurial awareness at the household level, especially among women in the Family Welfare Movement (PKK), as the spearhead of family economic growth. In the practical session, participants were invited to create recycled product examples from plastic and paper waste easily found around the home. This activity received high enthusiasm from the participants, who actively asked questions and directly participated in the discussion and practical sessions. The PKK BPWIR Babat group expressed their appreciation for this activity and hoped for follow-up programs in the form of production and marketing training.
This PKM activity is part of the UMLA Entrepreneurship Study Program's ongoing efforts to build synergistic relationships between the campus and the community, as well as create locally-based solutions that are applicable and effective. [Kwu-Red]
